این استاد معماری خاطرنشان کرد: ممکن است برخی تصور کنند فقر عامل بی‌توجهی به آرامش‌بخشی بناها به ساکنان است، با این وجود در جوامع روستایی همواره شاهد زیباترین فضای زندگی هستیم. مجتهد زاده یادآور شد: میان دو مقوله‌ معماری و ساختمان‌سازی باید تمایز قایل شویم، چراکه در ساختمان‌سازی حایلی میان انسان و فضا ایجاد می‌شود؛ ولی آن‌چه در معماری مهم است توانایی برای برداشتن این حایل است. مثلا در خانه‌های امروزی عواملی چون تعداد اتاق‌ها و وجود استخر اهمیت دارد در حالی که در خانه‌های قدیمی داشتن حیاط مرکزی، چهار سفره‌ای بودن و داشتن ایوان و شاه‌نشین اهمیت داشت و هر فضا شخصیت خاص خود را داشت. او ادامه داد: در گذشته هر فضا در خانه متناسب با نوع فعالیت در نظر گرفته شد، ولی امروزه به فضاها اندیشیده نمی‌شود از این رو فضای زندگی به ساکنان آرامش نمی‌دهند و این خود معضلی بزرگ است.
